Review rules

ProfScope works only if reviews are honest and fair. Write the review you would want to read before choosing a course.

A good review

  • Describes the teaching: lectures, materials, workload, exams, grading and feedback.
  • Is specific — what worked, what did not, and who the course suits.
  • Is about a course you actually took with this professor.
  • Is written in English, so every student can read it.

Not allowed

  • Insults, personal attacks, threats or harassment.
  • Comments on someone’s appearance, private life, religion, ethnicity, gender or health.
  • Accusations you cannot back up, or anything you know to be false.
  • Personal data of anyone: phone numbers, e-mails, addresses, social accounts.
  • Spam, ads, or text unrelated to the course.
  • Reviews in other languages, including Russian or Azerbaijani typed in Latin letters.

How moderation works

  • Reviews with offensive language are blocked when you submit them, in English, Russian and Azerbaijani, in either alphabet. Reviews that are not in English are refused the same way.
  • Anyone can report a review with the Report button under it. After three reports from different networks the review is taken off the site until a moderator or the AI checks it again.
  • Reviews with text are checked by an AI moderator before they appear to other people; until then they wait as “awaiting”. A rating without text appears at once. Reviews that break these rules are hidden.
  • For serious violations — threats, hate, harassment, someone’s personal data — the browser that posted the review can be blocked from the whole site.
  • Moderators restore reviews that follow these rules, remove the ones that do not, and can lift a block that was a mistake.
  • A professor’s average rating appears only after five reviews, so one review cannot define anyone.

For faculty

If a review about you breaks these rules, use the Report button under it and choose “I am this professor”. Reports are anonymous. A report from a professor hides the review at once until a moderator decides. See also the terms of use.
